MOTEL AMERICANA PODCAST

MOTEL AMERICANA PODCAST

I’m proud to be partnering with Jack Same on his Motel Americana Podcast. I’ve known Jack forever and happy to be lending a hand wherever possible, returning the favor for his help and inspiration he offered for the collection of Motel Americana short films we made awhile back. Below are his show notes:

Motel Americana is a short story podcast consisting of odd and lovely tales set in a crummy motel in Jersey circa the 1980’s. The stories here run the literary gamut, from sci-fi and horror to comedy and romance.

I came into possession of the source material for the stories as a kid in 1988 while staying at the motel with my family. The first episode describes in detail the circumstances and content of this acquisition.

Primarily, what’s presented are dramatic readings of those accounts, which were written by Oscar Garrett, a teenager who lived at the motel with his family and evidently bugged the rooms– the tales are unarguably based on actual audio surveillance recordings of the lodgers that stayed at the motel.

My intention is to weave into the episodes the actual surveillance audio wherever possible. My hope is that as my production resources grow (please consider supporting this effort), this editing approach will become more prevalent in subsequent episodes.

As I sort my way through the material, I’m finding that many of the characters’ tales are loosely interconnected and they are beginning to offer a backdrop, and perhaps some answers, to the mysterious circumstances surrounding the eventual disappearance of Oscar and, indeed, of the motel itself.

But I won’t get ahead of myself.

Making sense of Oscar’s stories is an endeavor of discovery, attended by the wide array of joys, fears, and terrible uncertainties that make any discovery worth making.

Thanks for listening along with me.

THE CUTTING ROOM MOVIE PODCAST

The Cutting Room Movie Podcast was one of the best movie review talk shows on the web.

We strove to discuss movies in ways that were insightful, entertaining and deeply personal. Sometimes that meant deep analysis, sometimes lots of monkey business. Sometimes it meant personal revelations or shedding a tear or two.

Cinema is our mythology. We used it to understand ourselves better… through the somewhat unlikely artform of podcasting.

Our past guests have included Brian Dennehey, Michael Berryman, Leo Fitzpatrick, Kim Rhodes, Halley Feiffer, among others.

The hosts, in no particular order, were Thomas Dettloff, Joseph Christiana (yours truly), Max Koch, Dave Pace, William Bourassa, Adam Sholder, and Jeff Shroeck.

Though the podcast is currently on indefinite hiatus, you can listen to the vast library of episodes on Youtube, where the mighty TCRMP shall live on till infinity and beyond.
